Introduction to The Inner Smile + Guided Meditation

, , 2 Comments

In this meditation we will use what Taoists
call “The Inner Smile.” Reaching the Inner Smile is a very ancient
practice to improve and maintain health. We will rely on it to transform negative emotions
and improve our physical, mental and emotional well-being. To achieve this change, recall a situation
in which you experienced love and gratitude. You can also bring to mind an experience in
which you laughed with your entire body. You can evoke any occasion that was especially pleasant for you, one that was also enjoyed by everyone around you. Once you have remembered this experience and
the cooling sensation that accompanied it, transmit the feeling to every organ in your body through concentration, breathing and imagination By concentrating with a light and joyful sense on your bodily organs, you create and emit an inner vibration that relaxes, refreshes and nourishes. You can use this meditation any time of day;
you can also use it at bedtime and fall asleep to it. If you wish, spend a few minutes stretching
your body before the meditation. You will enhance concentration and increase
the meditation benefits. Feel free to occasionally pause this audio and perform your favorite stretches or any other physical routine that you are familiar with. Find a comfortable position that allows you
to keep your spine erect. Adjust your position as often as necessary. You may sit on a chair with your feet in full contact with the floor and your back straight, or you may sit atop a pillow on the floor. Avoid slouching. You may lean your back against a wall to maintain your spine in upright position. You may also lie down, keeping your back flat to the floor… Whichever position you choose, keep your back comfortably straight. Once you have found the best position, close your eyes or observe the images on the screen. Focus attention on the melody and let yourself be transported by the music. Allow the notes to vibrate inside you. Let the vibration course through your entire body. Direct your attention to breathing. Concentrate on how the air enters and exits. Enters and exits… Appreciate how your body relaxes with each exhalation. Feel how your lungs fill with air. Feel how they relax as they empty. Feel the calm washing over your body Concentrate on this feeling of well-being. Enhance the sensation with a smile. Now, I will count down from 5 to 0. When I say 5, you will take a deep breath. Then, release the air when it feels comfortable. When I say 4, breathe in deeply again. And again release the air smoothly. By the time I reach 0, your mind will be silent. It’s okay if you don’t follow the countdown rhythm. What really matters is that you breathe deeply
and easily. Inhale softly Release the air comfortably. You have reached a deep state of awareness, and from this point travel to the past. Bring to mind a situation in which you felt especially good, a situation in which you felt happy, Try to remember how you felt Remember the scene in detail. Recall the well-being that you experienced on that occasion. Take your time to re-live the scene. Feel how you pulsed with emotion on that occasion. If you find it difficult to remember a situation in which you felt happy, simply imagine a smiling face. And smile at it. Smile, lifting the tiny corners of your lips. Inhale the pleasant sensation of your smile. Then, as you exhale, send this smile to your lungs. If helpful, place the palms of the revitalizing presence of your smile. Joy, optimism and a love for life are the
