Meditation For Humility | Yoga With Adriene

– Hey everyone.
Welcome to Yoga With Adriene, I’m Adriene and this is Benji and today we have a
meditation for humility. So hop into something
comfy and let’s get started. (gentle music) Okay my sweet friends, we’re gonna start
today in a Child’s Pose. If Child’s Pose
ain’t your thang, just come into a nice,
comfortable seat. A place where you can
connect to your breath. I’m choosing Child’s Pose or
Extended Child’s Pose so we can start in a pose of surrender and
just get our head a little bit below our hearts in
honor of today’s theme. So if you’re into seated you
can just bow head to heart. Otherwise, let’s come
on down to the ground. Bring the knees as wide as your
yoga mat and as you’re ready, send the fingertips out,
take a big breath, and with intention bow the head. Get it lower
than your heart space. You’ll feel the shoulders and
back and hips start to open up. But right away you might,
if you’re willing, close your eyes. Start to listen to the sound of
your breath and just notice what this feels like if
you can really lean in. Getting the heart to melt. Getting the head
underneath the heart. Considering this is a little
symbol of just kind of giving the thinking mind a break. Allowing the heart, the soul to
be the star of the show today. So we often show up on
our mat for asana practice. And that sort of
conditioning and that work, of course, is important and extraordinary
and valuable. But today’s session
is about being still. Residing with the breath. And connecting to
this feeling of humility. In other words, (laughs) it’s not what is on the outside, but what is on the
inside that counts. As you gently continue
to deepen your breath here, just find places to soften and
you might even feel things pop and shift even
just with these long, conscious breaths. Accept any feelings any thoughts
that are coming across your table here, your desk. And then as you’re willing,
start to clear the desk off. Focus on your breath. And then as an individual but
also considering this community, this global connection, just
take one final loving cycle of breath in humility. Tending to the inside. Surrendering to that
which you can not control. Then slowly, nice and slow you
can keep your gaze soft as you press back up and you’re gonna
come into a nice comfortable seat of your choice. And we have about a
five minute vapasana, so a five minute quite
sit we’re gonna do today. You’re gonna want
to stop the video, you’re gonna wanna quit. So let’s see if we can make it
to the end as a grand act of love and humility. Sit up nice and tall. Allow your hands to rest
gently wherever they fall. Tuck the chin just slightly, sit up nice and tall, lean back. Find places to lift
and then places to ground. And remember why we practice
asana in the first place. To connect to our higher self. That divine and historically to
allow us to sit in meditation, to be still, to reflect,
to nurture the soul. You ready? Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in. And let’s begin. Notice the natural ebb
and flow of your breath as you come into your seat. If this is new for you,
you are in the perfect zone. That beginner’s mind. I’ll watch the timer, so you can soften and
relax into this moment. It’s now about four
minutes of your life. You’re gonna be able
to sit here and be still. Trust that you can and you will
do it with grace and with ease, with a curiosity. Keep breathing. Just relax and allow. Notice the thoughts that come
across your desk, your table. And then come back to the
structure you have in your body and come back to the ebb and flow of your breath
and start again. You’re doing great. Continue to sit
up nice and tall. Continue to just observe the
ebb and flow of your breath. And for your
final two minutes here, embrace this moment,
this stillness, this peace that resides within. So whether or not
you’re feeling it today or not, that’s really not up to anyone. But being open to access
that through regular yoga and meditation practice,
that’s the ticket. So stick with it here.
You got it. Serving the breath,
embracing the moment. Relishing this
stillness and this peace. This time for yourself. With the eyes closed
and without moving a muscle, bring your awareness or your attention to
the base of the spine. Slowly and sweetly
from this point start to draw a
line all the way up. Maybe this affects your posture just a bit but you
don’t have to move. Just slowly, in your mind’s
eye, draw a line all the way up through the center channel,
this plumb line, this super highway of energy. That is how this can affect you. If not today,
with practice it will. Connecting all the way up
through the neck and all the way up through the crown of the
head ’til you reach the top. And when you reach the top slowly bring your hands
to your heart space. Take a deep breath in
and then empty it out. (exhales loudly) Inhale in again. (inhales sharply) With the eyes closed, exhale, bow head to heart. The most humble bow. Take one more quiet
moment to notice how you feel. Then gently bat
the eyelashes open. Open your eyes, lift your chin. Lift the corners of the mouth
just slightly and then bring the thumbs right up
to the third eye. Sweet. You did it.
Amazing. Could this be the beginning of
a fresh lifelong romance with meditation in conjunction
with your yoga practice? Maybe so. I’ll be writing a little bit
more on today’s theme on the blog so go check it out and
we’ll have conversation down below, of course, and on the Find What Feels Good
membership as well. Thank you so much for being here
for sharing your practice with me and with so many beautiful
people around the world. We are definitely
lucky to have each other. Deep breath in. Exhale to bow. Namaste. (gentle music)

Our practice stems from a long and sacred line of branches all designed and geared to support you in sitting with your higher self – the divine, that snuggle with your higher purpose. Your physical practice is merely to prepare you, invite you, and welcome you – back to you.

The big you. The best you.

    Yeah, I’m talkin’ to you.

Can you make it to the end of this 13 min video? Let me know down below.

I was surprised when it ended since I didn't check how long it was going to be. I try to medidate after every practice but my mind still wanders too often. I hope that, after enough practice, focusing on my breath would become natural to me to a point where I would get the habit of just breathing instead of over-thinking when I go about my day. Thank you Adrienne!

Hopped to this today! After a stressful day this helps to bring my focus back not only inward but outward. I got a meditation and mindfulness tattoo very recently as a dedication and also a reminder to be present and also trusting of the world around me and of myself. Though I have my bad days I'm slowly starting to feel better and more self aware through writing, yoga and meditation practices. I'm happy I clicked this video today. I have needed to become more grounded in my values and physically. Thank you for this meditation!

My cat was very confused about why I was just sitting there and not petting him – he likes to hang out with me (usually under me or on top of me) while I do yoga. He got lots of love afterward though 🙂

Just did this video because my boyfriend made the comment "you seem really scattered and not very grounded" when we got home from the grocery store, with a very busy day ahead. I laughed because he knows I love doing your yoga videos! He often does them with me, which is cool! Anyway, I realized that I had not meditated in several months, and as soon as you said something like "settle in, don't give up", I closed my eyes and got kind of panicky! I just started deepening my breath slowly, and without realizing it, I was crying. But it felt surprisingly good, and relieving. Thank you for this video as a reminder to focus on our own personal healing journey!!! You rock, and so do all the other YOGIS out there!!! My bf also started calling me "yogi kylie" today 🙂 Hope you have a great day. Blessings!!!

Made it through the video, thank you Adriene! Been watching your channel since 2015 and my life has totally changed for the better. I am in a loving relationship now, I treat my body and mind with much more respect, and it is easier to allow thoughts to pass on by (to clear the desk). From this space of humility and from my heart to yours, I thank you so much for your devotion to this practice! It has made an incredible impact on my life and the lives of so many others. Namaste

For a while I've seen this video in my suggestions but I finally got around to doing it and I'm so happy I did. This is helping me to see that I don't have to take everything so seriously, including myself. Through these silent periods I'm improving on clearing my mind and focusing on really breathing love in to myself and out to the world. Thank you for yet another awesome meditation pratice. I'll definitely be coming back to this one!

This the second practice for our first day of MAGIC, I find meditating leaves me with an awesome calmness that seems to last and last. I so wish I could overcome the discomfort I feel in my upper legs in this position affected by my arthritis. I try to breathe through but this is the only thing which discourages me from regular meditation …. feeling 😢 ! 🧘🏼‍♀️🙏💞

Meditation = Attention to the Middle…. As long as breath is constant,

All I can think whenever I do this meditation practice is a Caddyshack quote "Be the ball Danny." Danny responds "it's hard to be the ball with you talking like that." To which that character replies, "ok, shutting up now. Not talking . . . Be the ball." Lol Just something about Adriene's reminders during the quiet meditation.

    Still a sweet practice, though.

I've just gone through a breakup that has left me extremely uncertain and uneasy moving forward and knowing who I am. Tonight I decided I'm not going to be in denial anymore and that I am willing to deal with the heartache and the pain and to allow myself to FEEL the loss rather than being self-destructive and numb. This includes coming back into my yoga practice which I neglected during these past few weeks. This video was exactly what I needed, and even though my back muscles were aching, reminding me of my lack of self-discipline, and my chest physically aches from a broken heart, I am so glad I am here. Ready for tomorrow's session on Ahimsa yoga, which again sounds totally relevant for me at this time. Thank you Adriene for your humility in teaching us and in creating a space for us to come when we choose to. <3 02.10.2018

I can't believe I actually sat there cross legged and it was only in the last couple of minutes that I could feel my hip and back complaining. I think that it's practicing yoga generally that has made me able to do this, if I compare myself with a year ago. Thank you for this Adriene again. Next time you're at Kew Gardens or Ally Pally, I want to be there!! xx

@yogawithadriene This was such a beautiful meditation. When you asked us to focus on the base of our spine, and draw a line up to the top of the head, that was absolutely life-changing for me. All of my thoughts drifted away, and I experienced pure bliss. Thank you so much for sharing your spirit with us. You are inspiring.

Did you make the ending music volume lower in this video? If so, I love that! Every video I kinda resent the interruption that comes from the song, because I am usually very chill, and it usually ends in shavasana and I'd rather stay there in peace, and sometimes I choose to meditate too. The song helps only in the videos that are meant to up your energy for the day ahead

I just simply LOVED this video, i am watching almost everyday and my day is just completely different. It feels that i dont even need to meditate a full hour, as i was doing some weeks ago. Of course, meditating in additana for 1 hour gives specific benefits, as a clearing of sensations and perceptions of the body, and a much larger space to choose how to act after something occurs. But with your way of guiding in this video, guiding us in all this intention and perception, it already gives me the nectar of the fruit that i so strongly need everyday. Thank you so much. I just met you, trough this video (i searched for yoga humility) and loved.

    Peace!

Today I felt a real blockage around my heartspace while doing the meditation, that is interesting! Especially since I did "Yoga for Head and Heart Opening" just yesterday evening. But just being aware of it is great, now I can go into that feeling and see how it changes over the day! I did a night time and sun rise meditation with adriene over the past 24 hours, & I felt moved to the word 'humility' tonight when winding down before bed. been working on body/mind/spirit, & this tested my patience and strength (physically and mentally). lots that I'm physically, mentally, and emotionally being prepared for; this is my sign! adriene, wow. thank u, namaste.

Greetings lovely Adriene. Yesterday I finished a 30 Day Meditation Challenge and hadn't really meditated prior to that much and even ones I did with you I hadn't meditated prior to those. It was a calming and relaxing experience. So now I am craving more. This brings me to finding a playlist on here with 5 mediation segments you offer. I noticed I had already liked this one hence done it before and probably the others I will come across. I am grateful to have found this small playlist and after will seek out more. This was so relaxing as well and I really like that you do not do a lot of talking, which that would not bother me I am used to your beautiful voice, and you allow for much quiet and stillness. Any suggestions on other meditations after I am done with these 5 on the playlist? I know I can google, youtube search, or what have you, but I thought to ask nonetheless. Jai Namaste 🙏🏽💞
